The assistant of the department spoke about the innovations on road signs in 2026

From January 1, 2026, new rules for the use of road signs will begin to operate in Russia, based on the updating of two key GOST standards. Turgunboy Zokirov, an assistant professor at the L. L. Popov Department of Administrative Law and Procedure at the O. E. Kutafin Moscow State Law University, told about this on November 24.

"Among the most important changes, it is allowed to duplicate the Maximum Speed Limit sign on roads with one lane for traffic in each direction in places where accidents are concentrated and to prevent their occurrence in dangerous areas," he said in an interview with TASS.

It is clarified that another change concerns road signs informing about speed bumps. Experts explain that in populated areas, the "Artificial unevenness" sign will become optional if a new "Recommended speed when passing an artificial unevenness" sign is installed. This new sign is a white rectangle with a blue square indicating the recommended speed and indicating the roughness itself.

The expert said that a new standard for road signs, GOST R 52290-2024, will come into force in 2026. It will replace the outdated GOST, which has been in force since 2006, and establish stricter requirements for the production of signs. According to Zokirov, the updated standard pays special attention to the protection of the front surface of the signs during installation, and also clearly regulates the completeness of the delivery.

Pavel Fedyaev, deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Transport and Transport Infrastructure Development, announced on October 2 that new road signs will appear in Russia in 2026. It was clarified that one of the innovations will be a "Stop line", which will be used in places where it is impossible to install a traditional horizontal sign. The sign 6.2.1 "Recommended speed when passing artificial bumps" will also be introduced, it will increase the comfort of the journey.
