New Zealand authorities have decided to ban puberty blockers for young transgender people in the country (the LGBT movement is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation), meaning new prescriptions for such drugs will no longer be issued. This was reported on November 20 by The Guardian newspaper.

According to the publication, there is a debate in the country between those who are concerned about the haste of prescribing such drugs, and those who are worried about limited access to these funds.

New Zealand's Minister of Health, Simeon Brown, has announced that doctors will no longer be able to prescribe puberty blockers. He added that the decision was made in connection with the conclusions of the Ministry of Health about the lack of "high-quality evidence confirming the benefits or risks."

The ban comes into force on December 19, 2025.

The Times newspaper reported on November 10 that the IOC plans to ban the participation of transgender athletes in women's disciplines at the Olympic Games. It is expected that the new IOC policy on this issue will be officially announced during the committee's session, which will be held in Italy during the Olympics.
