China is likely to retain its status as the world's largest car exporter for the third year in a row. This was reported by the local newspaper Yicai, reports TASS on November 19.

Since 1980, Japan has been the largest exporter of cars, and China surpassed it in this indicator by the end of 2023. In the first three quarters of 2025, car exports from China reached 4.95 million units, and from Japan - 3.06 million.

Electric vehicles have become a key factor in export growth, said Chen Shihua, Deputy Secretary General of the Chinese Association of Automobile Manufacturers. The average monthly export volume of electric cars last year was about 100 thousand units, and this year it amounted to about 200 thousand cars.

There is also a significant trend in sales of Chinese-made cars in Europe. In the first quarter of this year, 430,000 new Chinese cars were registered there, an increase of 74% year-on-year. At the same time, BYD's sales in the EU surpassed Suzuki's results, while Chery's sales were higher than Mitsubishi's.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that in the first 10 months of 2025, 290,000 new passenger cars were imported to Russia, which is 64% less than in the same period last year. The import of new cars from China decreased by 68%, to 210 thousand units.
