On November 18, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin spoke at a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) about the directions for cooperation between the SCO member states.

The meeting's agenda includes a discussion of key areas for further strengthening cooperation within the SCO. The meeting will consider measures to implement the organization's Development Strategy until 2035, paying special attention to expanding trade, cultural and humanitarian ties.

Special emphasis will be placed on cooperation in the fields of culture, education, sports, green industry, energy, artificial intelligence, innovation, scientific research, digital economy, youth exchanges, tourism and healthcare.

"To strengthen transport connectivity, [it is necessary] to expand the infrastructure of international corridors, create favorable conditions for road transportation, and introduce modern digital technologies and services," Mishustin said.

In the agricultural sector, Mishustin proposed to strengthen cooperation between the SCO countries in the field of seed breeding. With the help of such measures, it will be possible to increase production, which is necessary to ensure global food security.

"The creative industry is becoming another important point of growth for our economies. According to expert estimates, the share of SCO countries in global exports of such goods is about 37%," Mishustin said.

He noted that it is possible to unlock the potential of the SCO countries in the creative industry through the launch of joint projects and the introduction of mechanisms to assist entrepreneurs in this sector.

Earlier, on November 17, Russian Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov called for the creation of the SCO Sustainable Development Council to unite the efforts of the organization's member countries in the field of ecology. The Minister noted Russia's success in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, including record reductions in unemployment and poverty, the growth of the agro-industrial sector and the development of green finance.

SCO Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev highly appreciated the Russian initiative to establish a council for sustainable development within the framework of the association. According to him, the council could address a range of issues, including updating the SDGs for the regions, developing joint approaches, and supporting UN activities in this area in the SCO format. At the same time, Yermekbayev stressed that this is a serious issue that requires expert discussion, taking into account the positions and interests of each SCO country.
