The expert advised not to refuel a car with a more affordable AI-92 in the cold.
Even in severe frosts, you should not fill your car with gasoline with a lower octane rating than what the manufacturer recommends. This was told by Konstantin Yershov, coach of the training center of the international network of Fit Service car services.
The specialist explained that gasoline with an octane rating of 92 has a higher evaporation rate, since it consists of lighter fractions of hydrocarbons. These fractions turn into steam faster and form a combustible mixture with air even in frosts, which theoretically helps when starting the engine "cold".
"But this does not make the AI-92 a universal solution. The octane number is also an indicator of detonation resistance.: the ability of fuel not to self-ignite under pressure. It doesn't tell you about the purity of the fuel, the quality of the additives, or how the fuel behaves in the cold. Therefore, lowering the octane number for an easy launch in winter is wrong," Rossiyskaya Gazeta quotes the expert as saying on November 17.
An easy engine start does not depend on the brand of gasoline, but on its freshness, quality and proper operation of the ignition system. If the car is designed to use the AI-95, then even in severe frosts it is not necessary to violate the tolerance, so as not to face premature repairs, warned Ershov.
Earlier, on November 12, auto expert Vadim Strelbitsky dispelled the myth of low reliability of modern automobile engines. The motors have not lost their reliability compared to engines of previous generations and differ in that they are more technologically advanced and demanding.
