Projects involving Lukoil in Kazakhstan have been exempted from US sanctions
Large Kazakh projects involving the Russian company Lukoil are excluded from US sanctions. This was announced on November 17 by the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Yerlan Akkenzhenov.
"Just yesterday we received an exception, Karachaganak Petroleum Operating was excluded from the list of sanctioned assets. As well as Tengizchevroil, as well as the CPC pipeline (Caspian Pipeline Consortium — Ed.)," TASS quoted the minister as saying.
Akkenzhenov stressed that the work of all major projects in Kazakhstan continues as normal, and assured that they will work without obstacles.
On October 22, the US Treasury announced the imposition of sanctions against Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil. On October 27, the company announced its intention to sell its foreign assets.
The Reuters news agency, in turn, reported on November 12 that Lukoil had asked the US authorities to extend the deadline set by the US Treasury Department for completing operations with the company, which expires on November 21. In addition, according to the interlocutors of Reuters, the company also needs additional time to study proposals related to international assets in the field of oil and gas production, refining and trading.
