The auto expert gave advice on choosing tires and preparing the car for winter.
Viktor Martynenko, an auto expert and head of the emergency training school, explained how to choose tires and prepare the car for winter.
In an interview with Radio 1 on Monday, November 17, the expert noted that many drivers postpone "overshooting" until the last, but this should not be done. He stressed that it is necessary to focus not on the first snow, but on the temperature: it is advisable to switch to winter tires when the daily average drops below +5 degrees.
The specialist added that it is especially important to change tires for those who travel outside the city, where the temperature is lower and the risk of ice is higher. He also explained that the choice of winter tires depends on the operating conditions: in the city, friction tires are suitable, whereas studded tires are necessary in more difficult situations.
The expert recalled that winter tires last for a limited period of time — usually no more than three years, and their regular replacement ensures safety. He also warned about the risks of buying used tires, especially if they come with the car.
Earlier on November 17, the Moscow Department of Transport advised drivers to travel only on winter tires. By the end of the day, according to weather forecasts, rain and snow are expected in the city, writes "Moscow 24". Car owners were warned about possible local traffic restrictions in the center of Moscow, according to 360.ru . Drivers were also urged to keep their distance and speed limits, the Moscow City News agency said.
On November 15, Auto specialists.<url> reminded motorists about safety measures in the cold season. In particular, the wipers should be checked and the summer washer fluid should be replaced with winter fluid to avoid freezing, RT notes.
On November 13, experts reported that the season for replacing summer tires with winter tires started earlier this year — snow fell in early October in most of Russia. Motorists in the Far Eastern, Volga, Northwestern, Siberian and Ural districts went for tire repairs earlier than usual.
On November 6, the director of the car service, Alexander Pakhomov, told NSN that if a motorist gets on bare ice, only the spikes on the tires will allow them to have a good coefficient of adhesion, so the "velcro" should be abandoned in winter.
