- More than 20 thousand people were evacuated in Nuremberg because of the discovered aerial bomb.
In the city of Nuremberg, more than 20,000 people were evacuated due to an unexploded aerial bomb from World War II discovered in the Grossreuth area. This was announced on October 14 on the website of the city administration.
"The find is an American aerial bomb with two impact fuses weighing about 450 kg. It will be defused on the night of Saturday, November 15th. Firefighters, rescuers, police and the Federal Agency for Technical Assistance (THW) are working at the site, as well as three explosive device disposal specialists," the statement said.
It is noted that the evacuation zone was 800 m and affected a total of up to 21 thousand people. The incident was described as the largest evacuation in the city due to the discovery of a World War II bomb.
Ten buses were provided for evacuation measures. Transport will take local residents to a shelter that can accommodate 1.2 thousand people.
Earlier, on April 29, in the Czech village of Oldříšov, workers discovered a 100 kg World War II-era aerial bomb at a construction site. Because of this, 200 residents had to be evacuated. The sappers examined the object, after which they reported that it could be defused. Later, the residents were allowed to return to their homes.
