- The Russian Federation has begun developing a program for monitoring public transport in the regions
Russia is developing a system for monitoring public transport in the regions. This was announced on October 9 by Alexey Shilo, Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, at the plenary session of the Public Transport 2025 forum.
"My colleagues and I from the Ministry of Finance are developing a program for the regions that will include a public transport monitoring system. This system will be free for the regions and will allow collecting statistics on transportation, as well as tracking the number of vehicles that serve the region," Shilo said, quoted by TASS.
He explained that the data will help to adjust and accurately track the necessary routes in cities. In addition, he said that by 2030, 32 thousand vehicles, mainly buses, are planned to be delivered to the regions.
Earlier, on October 1, the State Duma proposed to limit the service life of public transport. It was specified that buses should be operated for approximately 10 years, trolleybuses for 15 years, and trams for 25 years. Such a measure, according to parliamentarians, will increase the level of transportation safety and passenger comfort, and regional authorities and carriers will be able to effectively plan purchases and attract preferential financing.
