Due to the shutdown of the US government, thousands of flights were delayed and cancelled at a number of American airports due to a shortage of air traffic controllers. This was reported on October 7 by the CBS News channel.

"Airports in US cities such as Denver, Newark, New Jersey and Burbank in California faced flight delays on Monday due to a shortage of air traffic controllers," the material says.

It is specified that on October 6, about 6 thousand flights were canceled in the United States due to the shutdown. Weather conditions also contributed to the delays. Despite the government shutdown, the Association of Air Traffic Controllers (NATCA) has ordered its members to continue working. Air traffic controllers, as employees of critical infrastructure, will receive a salary only after the shutdown is completed.

In the United States, on October 1, the government was suspended due to the lack of coordination of the draft budget. It was clarified that because of this decision, non-senior staff of federal agencies would be forcibly sent on unpaid leave, but senators who failed to agree on a draft budget would continue to receive salaries, since their incomes were protected by the US Constitution.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
