Hockey club (HC) Washington Capitals lost to Boston in the preseason match of the National Hockey League (NHL). The game, which took place on October 2, ended with a score of 1:3.

It is noted that this is the first game of HC Washington, in which the striker and captain of the Russian-born team Alexander Ovechkin, who returned to the game after an injury, took part.

"The 40-year—old Russian spent 21 minutes on the ice and scored three power plays and one shot at the opponent's goal with a score of -2," Sport-Express reported.

However, Ovechkin's team has every chance to win back — on October 9, the first match against Boston in the NHL regular season will take place.

On September 18, it was reported that the hockey player left training at the team's training camp due to a "lower body injury." Then the Washington Capitals started training in preparation for the new NHL season, which will begin on October 7.

On September 20, it was reported that Ovechkin was not included in the application for the Washington Capitals vs. Boston Bruins match. As a result, the Russian hockey player did not attend the first preseason match of the team.

On September 28, Ovechkin already had a full-fledged training session on the ice after his injury.

On October 2, it was reported that Washington included Ovechkin, who is recovering from an injury, in the NHL preseason game.
