French President Emmanuel Macron at an informal summit of the European Union (EU) in Copenhagen on October 1 agreed with Belgium's position that frozen Russian assets should not be used.

"When assets are frozen, international law must be respected," The Guardian newspaper quoted him as saying.

He also expressed that he fully supports the opinion of Belgian Prime Minister Bart de Wever on this position.

Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that all persons involved in the confiscation of frozen Russian assets would be prosecuted.

The day before, the head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, promised that the EU would not seize Russia's frozen assets. According to her, the EU has agreed with Ukraine to allocate €2 billion for the purchase of drones, which will allow Kiev to expand its capabilities and effectively use new technologies.
