- Champion Ashapatov noted the role of the PKR in restoring the rights of athletes from Russia
The Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) has done a lot to ensure that Russian athletes are allowed to compete. This was announced on September 27 by four-time Paralympic champion Alexei Ashapatov in an interview with Izvestia.
"The Russian Paralympic Committee has done a lot to ensure that our guys are allowed to compete. The Russian government helped, and therefore this is such a cumulative work that has yielded results," Ashapatov said.
Athletes will now be able to compete in various competitions under the Russian flag and the national anthem. It is very expensive for every athlete to represent their country with a flag and an anthem, the champion added.
According to him, all the results are not only a personal victory for the athlete, but also a victory for the whole country, which will always support its representatives.
Paralympic swimmer, two-time medalist of the Summer Paralympic Games Evgeny Zimin added that the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) realized the ineffectiveness of restrictions on Russian athletes.
"It is more honorable to fly under the flag of the Russian Federation than under a neutral one. There will be an opportunity to hear the national anthem and defend the honor of the country," Zimin said.
The Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) announced in a release on September 27 that it had achieved its reinstatement to membership in the IPC. The International Committee made this decision in South Korea. Now athletes will be able to participate in world-class competitions using the national flag, coat of arms and anthem.
