Iran and Russia have agreed on the participation of the Russian side in the construction of the Hormoz nuclear power plant in the south of the country, the deal will amount to $25 billion. This was reported by the IRNA news agency on September 26.

It is specified that the NPP will consist of four units, and an area of 500 hectares will be allocated for its construction.

The Atomic Energy Organization of the Islamic Republic (AEOI) announced that the agreement was reached during the visit of the head of the organization, Mohammad Eslami, to Moscow to participate in the World Atomic Week International Forum. The Iranian delegation was given the opportunity to visit various enterprises of the Russian nuclear industry.

"During the visits, negotiations took place and agreements were reached, in particular in the field of the construction of a nuclear power plant exceeding the capacity of the Bushehr NPP and comprising a total of four units with a total capacity of almost 5 thousand. Eslami himself added that the design stage of equipping the nuclear facility at the Hormoz NPP in the province of Khomozgan should begin very soon.

"We have good relations with Russia in discussing cooperation in the construction of nuclear power plants. It was necessary to review and strengthen this process, as well as take a new step," said the head of the organization.

On September 24, it was reported that Russia and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation in the construction of low-power nuclear power plants in Iran. The document was signed at a meeting between Sergey Likhachev, Head of Rosatom, and Mohammad Eslami, President of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran. In addition, the parties discussed the implementation of current joint projects and cooperation in the field of peaceful atom.

On September 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that the trade turnover between Russia and Iran increased by 11.4% in the first half of 2025. He also stressed the friendly nature of Russian-Iranian relations.
