- Erdogan announced plans to discuss with Trump the supply of F-35 and F-16 fighter jets to Turkey.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan intends to raise the issue of the acquisition of American F-35 and F-16 fighter jets at talks scheduled for Wednesday, September 25, with the head of the White House, Donald Trump. He stated this on September 22 in an interview with Fox News channel.
"We are going to hold talks on this issue again. <...> We expect that the United States will also do everything that is required of them, both with regard to the F-35 and F-16 fighter jets," Erdogan said.
The President clarified that the discussions would concern not only the potential supply, but also the possible production and maintenance of these models.
Trump, announcing Erdogan's arrival at the White House on September 19, noted that his country was working with Turkey on numerous joint trade and military deals. Later, on September 21, Erdogan announced that he would also discuss "vital steps" in the Middle East region with the American leader.
