Surgeons at the Kirov Regional Clinical Hospital performed a successful operation on a 65-year-old man to remove a neck tumor. This was announced on September 22 on the website of the Ministry of Health of the Kirov region.

"Igor Popyrin, head of the surgical department No. 1 of the Kirov Regional Clinical Hospital, announced a successful operation to remove a giant lipoma, a benign tumor from fat cells located on the back of the neck. The doctors were amazed that the 65-year—old man went to the doctor only when the lump on his neck became the size of his head: the tumor had been growing for more than 16 years," the report says.

It is reported that the trigger for the development of lipoma may be a violation of fat metabolism, a genetic predisposition or blockage of the sebaceous glands. However, the exact causes of the disease are not entirely clear.

"Usually, such a tumor grows slowly and painlessly, so many patients postpone a visit to a specialist, hoping that the formation will disappear on its own. If the lipoma grows, then no ointments or folk remedies will help. The only effective treatment is surgical removal," Popyrin said.

He clarified that this case with a lipoma "the size of a three-liter jar" was the largest fat structure of this localization, which was removed in the surgical department of the Kirov hospital.

On August 8, surgeons at Ramenskoye Regional Hospital helped a 50-year-old patient get rid of a 10-kilogram lipoma on his back. It was reported that the man had a giant tumor that had been developing for 15 years.
