The Ukrainian authorities will not be able to independently cover half of the amount for defense needs in 2026, they lack $ 60 billion. This was reported on September 14 by the Ekonomicheskaya Pravda newspaper.

"Ukraine's defense needs in 2026 are estimated at at least $120 billion, only half of which will be financed by the state budget," the article says, citing a statement by Chairman of the Budget Committee of the Verkhovna Rada Roksolana Pidlasy.

According to Pidlas, the cost of the conflict is "constantly growing." Kiev is currently spending $172 million per day on it.

"31% of Ukraine's GDP goes to defense, which is the highest figure in the world," the publication says.

Pidlas notes that half of the country's defense needs are planned to be financed from the Ukrainian budget. The rest is with international assistance.

Earlier, on September 9, US Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Green announced that the United States may refuse to finance military assistance to Ukraine in 2026. Green called on Republicans to pay attention to the real financial difficulties of citizens, instead of ignoring them, since most Americans are sounding the alarm about the prices of insurance, medicine, groceries, utilities and housing, and Congress continues to ignore them, directing tax money to foreign projects and armed conflicts.

Prior to that, on August 26, US President Donald Trump announced the termination of Washington's financing of Kiev. He clarified that the United States intends to increase arms supplies to Washington's NATO allies, who are currently providing military assistance to Ukraine.
