Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on September 7 on his YouTube channel that Athens would not allow Turkey to receive preferential loans for military purposes from the European Union's special fund for militarization (Security Action for Europe, SAFE) if Ankara did not abandon threats of war in the event of an expansion of Greek territorial waters in the Aegean Sea.

"As long as the casus belli (Latin: formal reason for declaring war) persists and Turkey demonstrates revisionism that harms Greece, we will block its participation in SAFE," the prime minister stressed.

Mitsotakis noted that he wants to ensure open communication channels and be extremely honest with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on all issues.

Earlier, on June 27, it was reported that Greek Migration Minister Makis Voridis resigned for misuse of subsidies to Greek farmers, despite denying wrongdoing. The investigation for embezzlement was launched by the EU. As Voridis pointed out in a letter to Mitsotakis, his status as a criminal suspect does not correspond to that of a member of the Government.
