Darth Vader's lightsaber from "Star Wars" sold at auction for $3.6 million
Darth Vader's lightsaber from the Star Wars movie series sold at auction for $3.6 million. This was reported on September 4 by The Hollywood Reporter magazine.
It is noted that the sale amount at auction in Los Angeles exceeded the record mark for items from this film franchise. According to experts, the sword was estimated at between $1 and $3 million. As a result of the bidding, the auction winner offered $2.9 million. So, taking into account the auction house's commission fee, the total value of the lot reached $3.6 million.
According to the publication, the props were used in the films "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi" and were a rare find for collectors.
Also on display at the auction were Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber, Indiana Jones's whip and belt from the film of the same name, and Jean-Luc Picard's Corsican flute, which belonged to Patrick Stewart's character from the movie Star Trek: The Next Generation.
In November 2024, it was reported that the helmet of an imperial stormtrooper from the filming of the movie "Star Wars. Episode IV: A New Hope" was sold at auction in London for $413 thousand. The helmet became one of 1.8 thousand lots sold at a special auction dedicated to artifacts from the world of cinema, television and music.
