The conclusion of a direct agreement between the Russian Federation and Germany on the Nord Stream gas pipeline would be more in the interests of Germany than of Russia. This was stated on September 4 by the head of the German Council for Constitution and Sovereignty, Ralf Niemeyer, on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum 2025 (WEF 2025).

"It's more in the interests of Germany, not Russia, to negotiate directly," he stated.

The politician also said that American investor Stephen Lynch was interested in buying the pipeline. And if the deal had taken place, Germany would have been forced to buy Russian gas at very inflated prices.

Niemeyer also stated that he plans to apply to the chairman of the Gazprom Corporation with a proposal to purchase the company for the management of Nord Stream 2 Nord Stream 2 AG.

A day earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova pointed to Germany's controversial position on the Nord Stream case. According to her, despite the allegations of Ukraine's involvement in the undermining of gas pipelines, the German authorities for some reason do not expel Ukrainian diplomats from the country.

Also on September 3, it was reported about the start of the WEF-2025. It will be attended by delegations from 70 countries. According to experts, the amount of contracts concluded on it can reach almost 6 trillion rubles.
