Parents of schoolchildren often make the same common mistakes at the beginning of the school year. Natalia Fedkaeva, a child psychologist at the Discovery network of bilingual kindergartens and schools, reported this on Wednesday, September 3.

According to the expert, the most typical mistake is overloading with additional classes. Fedkaeva said that the first months of the school year are a period of so—called primary adaptation, when a steady rhythm is formed, basic social ties are built and new habits are consolidated. And if at this moment you bring down on the child too busy a schedule of clubs and sections, then the risk of emotional burnout and chronic fatigue increases many times. She expressed confidence that the task of parents is to regulate the pace and leave enough space for relaxation.

"Sometimes adults don't notice signs of fatigue, blaming them on whims. But signals such as compulsive movements, complaints of pain, or loss of interest in activities can indicate stress. In such cases, it is important to adjust the load in time, and if necessary, consult a specialist," the psychologist warned in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

The expert added that comparing with other children undermines a child's self-confidence and reduces the desire to learn. It is more useful to praise him for his efforts and celebrate even small achievements, the specialist noted.

She added that it is possible to help with the lessons, but it is not recommended to do everything for the student.

You should also properly build a reward system. If each successfully completed task is rewarded with a gift or sweets, studying turns into a deal, over time the child stops learning for the sake of knowledge and begins to perceive the process solely as a source of material benefit, concluded Fedkaeva.

Earlier that day, Olga Latyntseva, a psychologist in private practice and a teacher, said that in a chat with a teacher it is important to observe subordination: write only on business, address "You" and send messages during business hours — from 9 to 19 hours. In addition, the psychologist advised turning off the sound of parents' chat notifications and not delving into meaningless conversations. 360.ru .

On September 1, Evgeny Lykov, a psychologist at the NIKI of Childhood Training Center, said that the successful adaptation of a first-grader to study depends not only on knowledge, but also on emotional, volitional and social readiness.

Earlier, on August 29, crisis psychologist Olga Sofyanova said that attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a fairly common diagnosis, and it should be made by several doctors, not parents, who may confuse ADHD with the characteristics of a child's character.
