US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant called on European leaders to become more actively involved in the settlement process in Ukraine. He stated this on August 27 in an interview with Fox Business, which was broadcast on YouTube.

Bessent said that only Ottawa supported the introduction of secondary duties for countries that continue to trade with the Russian Federation. The continued cooperation of the countries with Russia, according to the US Treasury, allegedly slows down the process of resolving the Ukrainian conflict.

"I asked our European allies if they were ready to join, and only Canada was ready. The rest should also get involved, because they have the same interest in ending this war as we do," said Bessent.
