Paris reacted sharply to US Ambassador Charles Kushner's criticism of the "insufficient actions" of the French authorities against anti-Semitism and summoned him to the Foreign Ministry for clarification. This was reported on August 24 on the website of the French Foreign Ministry.

"The increase in anti—Semitic acts in France since October 7, 2023 is a reality that we regret. The French authorities are demonstrating total mobilization, as these acts are unacceptable," Paris said.

The French side called the diplomat's statements "unacceptable" and recalled that they "contradict international law, in particular the duty not to interfere in the internal affairs of States" in accordance with the Vienna Convention of 1961.

"These statements do not correspond to the level of trust and quality of the transatlantic ties that should unite France and the United States," the Foreign Ministry stressed.

Ambassador Kouchner will be summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Quai d'orsay on August 25 for clarification.

Earlier in the day, it was reported about a letter from Kushner sent to French President Emmanuel Macron. The ambassador accused the country's leadership of anti-Semitism. According to him, young French people have never heard of the Holocaust, which makes them doubt the level of school education.
