Djuric called full-fledged EU membership a strategic landmark for Serbia.
Serbia's full membership in the European Union (EU) is one of its strategic goals. This was announced on August 21 by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Marko Djuric during a meeting with the new head of the country's permanent delegation to the EU Andreas von Beckerat.
"At today's meeting, I reaffirmed that Serbia—EU relations are one of the pillars of Serbia's foreign policy, as we strive for full-fledged EU membership as our strategic guideline," he wrote on the social network X.
The diplomat also assured the new envoy of his commitment to deepening and developing relations with all institutions of the European community. He noted that the implementation of reforms within the framework of the EU agenda can provide "long-term benefits" for both the country and society as a whole.
Earlier, on July 26, Djuric said at the first meeting of the new Balkan Peace Platform initiative that the country intends to abandon the alternative to European integration. It is noted that the Balkans can retain the ability to discuss common problems, economic opportunities, as well as cooperation in the field of foreign policy and security with other EU countries and the world.
Earlier, on April 16, Serbia's Minister of Family and Demography, Milica Djurgjevic-Stamenkovski, questioned the country's intention to join the EU due to the economic crisis. She added that if the association continues to pursue its current policy, then its further expansion is simply pointless.
