Finland reported on the construction of a fence as close as possible to the border of the Russian Federation

The Finnish authorities want to build a fence as close as possible to the border with Russia. This was reported by Iltalehti newspaper on August 21.

"The border fence will be built as close as possible to the Russian-Finnish border. In addition, there is a road running along it all the way, and the fence itself has become higher. The height of the fence is now 4.5 m," the article says.

The newspaper writes that the fence will also be equipped with cameras, sensors and loudspeakers.

The President also announced the creation of a program for the comprehensive restoration of frontline regions.

On July 4, it was reported that Latvia was going to purchase almost 5,000 fence posts to strengthen the border with Russia. It was noted that the purpose of creating defensive structures is "to deter, stop and, if necessary, eliminate the enemy."

On April 16, the Finnish government decided to keep the border with Russia closed until further notice. It was clarified that the decree on the indefinite extension of the border closure has been in effect for about a year, while the new document replaced a similar decision dated April 4, 2024.
