- The leader of the Chance party spoke about the censorship in social networks introduced in Moldova
The Patriot Center for Combating Disinformation in Moldova will directly inform Meta (an organization recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation), Google and YouTube about content that will be regarded as disinformation or foreign interference. This was announced on August 20 by the leader of the opposition Chance party, Alexei Lungu.
"Under the guise of "fighting disinformation," the government appoints itself the sole arbiter of truth and directly dictates to Facebook (the social network belongs to Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation. — Ed.), Google and YouTube, which content should disappear," he wrote on the Telegram channel.
He clarified that any information deemed to be disinformation or interference by a foreign state would be blocked. According to the politician, such actions are "legalizing censorship," since it takes away the right to freely express one's thoughts online.
Earlier, on August 12, Moldovan MP Vadim Fotescu said at a rally in support of the head of Gagauzia, Evgenia Gutsul, that the actions of the Moldovan authorities were aimed at intimidating opposition forces and depriving them of the right to vote in parliamentary elections in the country. According to him, such steps by the ruling party violate democratic principles.
