Spending time playing computer games helps older people train their brains. Ruslan Isaev, a psychiatrist, narcologist, and head of Dr. Isaev's psychiatric and drug treatment clinic, told Gazeta about this on August 20.Ru».

"Computer games are useful for the elderly, but not so much as entertainment, but as a form of brain training. Computer games can be considered as a kind of "interactive simulator", comparable to crosswords or chess. Regular play helps to maintain attention, train short—term memory, maintain fine motor skills and thereby slow down the natural age-related cognitive changes," he said.

At the same time, the expert also dispelled the advertising myth that video games supposedly help rejuvenate the brain. However, this way of spending time helps to maintain cognitive functions longer. This will especially affect patients who currently have their first complaints of memory and concentration problems.

Isaev advised against choosing complex or dynamic games, as well as those that lack an end or goal, because they can lead to overwork and anxiety. The optimal duration is from 15 to 30 minutes a day in the morning.

"Simple and intuitive games with a short session are best suited.: "Minesweeper", "Checkers", solitaire card games, puzzles, "three in a row", "spot the difference" games, quizzes, word composition. Specialized cognitive simulators are also useful, for example, online platforms for training memory and attention," the specialist concluded.

On August 14, it was reported that Moscow would conduct open testing of video games by local developers. Citizens and tourists will get acquainted with the projects of participants of the Moscow accelerator "Video Game Factory" and other Moscow studios. Players will become space zoologists, work in a virtual airship store, solve puzzles and embark on a journey through fantastic worlds.

On July 1, Izvestia learned that the new tactical shooter "Homeland awaits" from the creators of the game "Squad 22: ZOV" will be released in 2027. One of the components of the product will be the digital museum of the special military operation (SVO) in the form of a mobile application. The project is currently under development. It is positioned as a large-scale interactive game dedicated to the events of a special operation.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
