From the beginning of autumn in Russia, passengers of long-distance trains will have the opportunity to use biometrics to purchase tickets and board, if it is technically possible for the carrier. This became known on August 17 from a government document reviewed by RIA Novosti.

The government has adjusted the rules of railway transportation of passengers, cargo and baggage for personal needs. The updated regulations will enter into force on September 1, 2025.

They will allow passengers of long-distance trains to undergo identification and authentication when buying a ticket and boarding using the Unified Identification and Authentication System (ESIA) and the Unified Biometric System (EBS), if the carrier has the appropriate technical support.

This feature will be available to EBS users. At the same time, the usual methods of processing travel documents and boarding the train will remain unchanged.

Ivan Kolesnikov, Deputy General Director of Russian Railways, announced on July 15 that in a few years, cars with gravity toilets would completely disappear from Russian Railways trains. In addition, Kolesnikov added that Russian Railways most often supplies wagons with toilets and modern bathrooms.
