More than 60 people were injured as a result of protests in Serbia
As a result of anti—government protests in Serbia, 64 people were injured, 16 of them policemen. This was announced on August 13 by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
"Terrible things are happening in Novi Sad tonight, and they are continuing," the head of state said.
It became known that the protests engulfed the offices of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party in Novi Sad and other cities of Serbia. The protesters use pyrotechnics, throw stones at law enforcement officers and shout demands for early elections. Vucic arrived at one of the meetings.
"When you show the will and desire to solve cases with peace, patience and endurance, eventually there is agreement. And Serbia will not concede in this," Vucic said.
On the evening of August 12, protests took place in Serbian Vrbas, during which almost 70 people were injured, including 16 policemen. It was clarified that a group of citizens of the republic protested in front of the building of the Serbian Progressive Party and its supporters. Several people were detained.
The next day, Vucic announced that he did not intend to run for the next presidential election. He clarified that he would end his presidential career in a year and a half and had no plans to change the country's constitution. In addition, the Serbian leader allowed early elections to the Serbian parliament.
The anti-government protests, which are attended by the Serbian opposition, began after 15 people died in November 2024 as a result of the collapse of the railway station in Novi Sad. The protesters blocked bridges and roads. On July 4, Vucic called on those who took to the streets not to block the city, threatening to use counteraction measures.
Later, on August 1, 2025, the President of Serbia called an emergency meeting of the Republic's Security Council in connection with the detention of former Minister of Construction Tomislav Momirovic, who was involved in the reconstruction of the train station where the collapse occurred.
