The Russian Ministry of Defense aims to strengthen defense cooperation with India, as a particularly privileged strategic partner. This was announced on August 5 by the deputy head of the department, Colonel-General Alexander Fomin, during talks with Indian Ambassador to the Russian Federation Vinay Kumar.

"The parties discussed in detail topical issues of bilateral cooperation in the defense sector, and confirmed their commitment to further strengthen core cooperation in the spirit of a particularly privileged strategic partnership," the ministry's press service said.

The Defense Ministry added that the meeting with the diplomat took place in a traditionally warm and friendly atmosphere for Russian-Indian relations.

On July 14, Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh announced that at least 14 countries had expressed interest in acquiring the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, manufactured at the Russian-Indian enterprise of the same name. He noted that interest in the rocket increased after the Sindur operation.

Prior to that, on June 26, Singh discussed strengthening cooperation with his Russian counterpart Andrei Belousov during a meeting of the heads of the defense ministries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries in Qingdao (China). Belousov noted that India is an important strategic partner of the Russian Federation in the military sphere.
