The Lithuanian government, headed by the country's prime minister, has resigned.
The Government of Lithuania, headed by Prime Minister Gintautas Palukas, has resigned. This was announced by Palutskas on August 4.
"Having decided to resign from the post of Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania, I announce the resignation of the 19th Government of the Republic of Lithuania. This may sound a little dramatic, but I'm resigning, you will temporarily continue working until the new prime minister decides how many and what changes will take place," Paloukas said, his words are reported by the Delfi portal.
The prime minister specified that on that day he would submit a written notice of resignation to President Gitanas Nauseda.
As Delfi emphasizes, the outgoing government of the Baltic country has worked for only eight months.
On July 24, Nauseda demanded that Paluckas clarify the situation surrounding the scandals involving him or consider resigning from his post. The reason for the ultimatum was the investigation into the company Dankora, founded by Paluckas' niece. The company received a preferential loan from the ILTE development Bank and soon began purchasing from Garnis, of which the prime minister himself is a shareholder.
On July 31, the Prime Minister of Lithuania announced his resignation from office.
