- The WSJ reported on China's restrictions on mineral supplies to Western defense firms.
China has imposed restrictions on the supply of critically important minerals to Western military firms and the military-industrial complex (MIC). This was reported on August 3 by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) newspaper, citing sources.
"China is restricting the flow of critical minerals to Western defense manufacturers, delaying production and forcing companies to scour the world for reserves of minerals needed to produce everything from bullets to jet fighters," the article says.
According to the publication, more than 80,000 parts used by the United States in weapons contain minerals supplied by Beijing. At the same time, some materials necessary for the West began to cost five times more expensive after the introduction of restrictions.
It is noted that such restrictions can negatively affect the production of weapons, as well as delay the supply chain of strategic minerals for countries. In addition, China is requesting information from foreign buyers about the purposes of using the purchased minerals so that they are not used in the military industry.
On July 20, it was reported that shipments of rare earth magnets from China to the United States increased sixfold in June 2025 compared to May. Thus, the volume of supplies increased to 353 tons, which is 660% more than in May.
In April, China also restricted exports of a wide range of rare earth metals and magnets amid a trade war with the United States.
