- Estonia reported on the construction of gates and barriers on the border with the Russian Federation
Construction work is underway at the border checkpoint in Narva, Estonia, including the installation of massive gates and metal barriers to block traffic if necessary. This was reported on August 3 by the ERR television company.
The head of the Narva border checkpoint, Antti Eensalu, noted that gates had already been erected on the bridge of the border checkpoint. The pedestrian part is still open to traffic, but it is planned to install pedestrian gates. Metal barriers will also be installed at all entrances. According to the official, such measures are aimed at strengthening the security of the border checkpoint.
"The installation of barriers will help prevent unauthorized passage. Also, the installation of gates will help to better control the situation on the bridge, for example, in the event of a migrant flow," said Eensalu.
On June 29, the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense announced that the country's authorities had formed 27 engineering parks on the border with Belarus and Russia, which housed dragon's teeth, anti-tank hedgehogs and other means of counter-mobility. The ministry noted that Lithuania, together with Latvia, Estonia and Poland, has taken the initiative to initiate a project to protect the eastern border of the European Union, which will strengthen the 2,300 km border with Russia and Belarus.
