An art collector from the UK randomly acquired the original of a rare illustration by the famous Spanish artist Salvador Dali at a garage sale in Cambridge for £150 (pounds sterling). This was reported by The Guardian newspaper on July 29.

It is noted that we are talking about a drawing with the name Vecchio Sultano ("Old Sultan"), which illustrates a scene from the Arabian fairy tales "One Thousand and One Nights". Dali painted it in 1966, using watercolor paints and a felt-tip pen. After confirming the authenticity of the purchase, experts estimated the cost of the image to 30 thousand pounds.

"The 60-year-old antiques dealer from Cambridge did not know about this two years ago when he bought Vecchio Sultano at a sale, noticing Dali's signature in the lower right corner," the newspaper said.

According to the newspaper, the dealer explained the low price for the drawing, even if it was claimed to be the original, by saying that the image "did not arouse universal admiration." The only buyer who was interested in it was the one who, upon purchase, also expressed uncertainty that he would hang it on his wall.

On June 10, CNN reported that a sculpture by French artist Auguste Rodin, which was found by an ordinary family in France, sold at auction for almost $1 million. It was clarified that the statue of Rodin disappeared from public view almost 120 years ago and was considered a copy. According to the family who kept the statuette for a long time, they also thought it was a fake. However, the examination of the Rodin committee, which is engaged in the preservation of his legacy, confirmed the authenticity of the find.
