The doctor told about the dangers of using sour cream to treat burns
People often use sour cream to treat burns, especially after sunburn, but this treatment method can make the situation worse. About this on July 26, "Gazeta.Ru" was told by therapist, dermatovenerologist, doctor of preventive medicine at the clinic "Be Healthy" on Sretenka, Maria Kyzymko.
According to the doctor, sour cream, kefir and butter can cool the place where they were applied, but this has no significant effect.
"Such products contain organic substances, which are an excellent breeding ground for bacteria. This means that the use of sour cream can increase the likelihood of infection of damaged skin and slow down the healing process," explained Kyzymko.
The therapist added that the fat contained in these products creates a film that prevents normal heat exchange and cell regeneration. This can lead to inflammation.
To cure sunburn, the expert recommended avoiding skin contact with sunlight, as well as drinking plenty of water, making cold compresses and using special medications to treat burns. If the situation worsened, the doctor advised contacting specialists.
Earlier, on July 11, Yulia Drobysheva, a technology developer of the Krassa brand, a molecular biologist and cosmetologist, told how to protect a child from sunburn. She recommended choosing sunscreens with an SPF of at least 30, preferably 50+, for reliable protection, as they reflect up to 98% of harmful solar radiation.
