George Santos, a former member of the US Congress from the Republican Party, was taken to a New Jersey state prison, where he will serve a seven-year sentence. This was reported on July 25 by the NBC television channel.

"George Santos has been taken to a federal prison in New Jersey to serve a seven-year sentence," the article says.

The ex-politician was charged with federal charges that included fraud using electronic means of communication, identity theft and money laundering.

On August 19, 2024, Santos pleaded guilty to one count of electronic communications fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft.

Santos was expelled from the US Congress for corruption on December 1, 2023. According to CNBC, the investigation into the politician has been conducted for a long time and was made public in mid-November. A commission led by the Republican Party concluded that Santos stole funds from his campaign funds and spent donors' money on purchases at places such as Ferragamo and Hermès, botox injections and visits to an adult website.
