Bloomberg reported on the sale of contaminated oil by Azerbaijan to two companies
British Petroleum (BP) and Italy's Eni SpA have accused Azerbaijan of selling contaminated oil. This was reported by the Bloomberg news agency on July 23.
"BP Plc reported that it was aware of potential problems with contamination of some oil shipments from Azerbaijan. <...> Italian Eni SpA later stated that it had acquired some of the contaminated shipments, and some of them ended up in its refining system," the publication says.
It is reported that the oil was supplied via the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline. The presence of contamination is associated with the presence of organic chlorides in some batches. In significant quantities, this substance can damage oil refineries and equipment.
Earlier, on April 17, the Czech Republic stopped receiving Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline and began purchasing from Italian suppliers. It is noted that now the country can receive up to 8 million tons of oil per year from Western oil pipelines, which will fully cover the consumption of Czech refineries.
