In France, the number of deaths exceeded the birth rate for the first time since 1945
In France, the number of deaths per year exceeded the number of births for the first time since 1945. This was reported on July 23 by the Franceinfo TV channel with reference to the report of the National Institute of Statistics of France (INSEE).
"The cumulative number of deaths in twelve months exceeded the number of births in France for the first time since 1945, according to data released by INSEE on Wednesday, July 23. According to these data, in the period from June 1, 2024 to May 31, 2025, 651 thousand deaths and 650 thousand births were registered," the TV channel noted.
According to Franceinfo, a negative trend was planned by INSEE for 2035. A sharp decrease in the birth rate and an increase in mortality indicates an acceleration of demographic changes.
Earlier in the day, the head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, noted a sharp increase in the number of deaths due to malnutrition in the Gaza Strip. According to him, this year the WHO has registered 21 deaths in Gaza related to malnutrition in children under the age of five. Ghebreyesus stressed that acute malnutrition rates exceed 10% of the population.
