In the United States, scientists have discovered ripples in space from the violent collision of two massive black holes that spiraled into each other far beyond the far edge of the Milky Way. This was reported on July 14 by The Guardian newspaper.

"Evidence of a black hole collision arrived on November 23, 2023, when two American detectors in Washington and Louisiana, controlled by the laser interferometric Gravitational Wave Observatory (Ligo), simultaneously received a signal," the publication noted.

According to the newspaper, analysis of the signal showed that the colliding black holes have a mass of 103 and 137 times the mass of the Sun and rotate about 400 thousand times. times faster than the Earth. They began to revolve around each other right up to their influence. They formed a new black hole about 10 billion light-years from Earth.

The Guardian emphasized that this event was the most massive merger of black holes ever recorded by gravitational wave detectors. This has forced physicists to rethink their models of the formation of huge objects.

"These are the strongest events we can observe in the universe, but when the signals reach Earth, they become the weakest phenomena we can measure," said Professor Mark Hannam, head of the Gravity Research Institute at Cardiff University.

Earlier, on May 13, NASA astronomers discovered a wandering black hole. For the first time, scientists have recorded an unusual event not in the center of the galaxy, but outside it.
