The biologist named ways to protect the child from the sun
The summer sun brings joy, games, and vitamin D, but it can be treacherous for delicate baby skin. Burns sustained in childhood increase the risk of skin problems in the future. On July 11, Yulia Drobysheva, chief technology developer of the Krassa brand, a molecular biologist and cosmetologist, told Izvestia how to protect a child and teach him to take care of himself.
"To begin with, it's worth following the simplest rules. Clothing and a headdress are the first shield: choose thick, light—colored clothes with long sleeves, trousers and a wide-brimmed panama hat. Even in cloudy weather, UV radiation continues to affect us," the expert reminded.
In addition, shade is the main protection for babies up to six months old, as their skin is very sensitive, even to sunscreens. Provide them with shelter under trees, awnings, or umbrellas to avoid overheating.
In addition to the basic rules of skin care, Drobysheva drew attention to the fact that it is extremely important to use sunscreens with SPF, especially if you plan to stay outdoors, even in cloudy weather.
"For reliable protection, choose sunscreens with an SPF level of at least 30, preferably 50+, as they reflect up to 98% of harmful solar radiation," the specialist reminded.
It is important that the products provide protection from both types of ultraviolet rays (UVB and UVA), as this is necessary to prevent not only sunburn, but also more serious and irreversible skin damage. It is also worth considering that the water resistance of sunscreen has its limitations, so it is necessary to reapply it after each bath or during active activities that cause sweating.
For children's skin, it is recommended to use creams with mineral filters such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, which form a protective layer on the surface of the skin, but they can leave a white coating. Chemical sunscreens are absorbed more easily, but they can cause irritation in some children. It is important to choose hypoallergenic products without perfumes and with mineral filters in the composition.
The expert also recommended teaching the child simple rules of sun protection. A great way to do this is through play and personal example. She advised comparing the cream to a "superhero mask" that makes the skin invisible to harmful rays. They say the sun can burn the skin, and the cream is a shield.
"Use products with bright vials or characters to get the child interested. You can also use the cream to draw patterns on the skin. Don't forget about the importance of personal example — children tend to copy adults. Show how you apply the cream, put on a hat and glasses. The habit is formed from childhood," Drobysheva explained.
Earlier, on April 16, Natalia Mikhailova, a cosmetologist and creator of the MESALTERA by Dr. Mikhaylova brand of professional cosmeceuticals, told Izvestia that mild cleansers should be used in the warm season — foams, gels or mousses with the addition of acids or enzymes. They effectively dissolve sebum and impurities without damaging the skin.
