A Russian woman who has lived in Canada for the last 15 years returned to her homeland and handed over $250 thousand to the fraudsters. This was announced on July 9 by a source of Izvestia.
"Back in November 2024, a 71-year-old pensioner received a messenger call from an unknown person who introduced himself as an FSB officer. He said that bank accounts had allegedly been opened in her name, and money was being transferred from them to the Ukrainian Armed Forces," the source said.
The fraudster demanded that the woman fly to Moscow and transfer her savings to the FSB Treasury for temporary storage.
In February 2025, the victim returned to Russia, withdrew $250,000 from the bank and, following the instructions of the attackers, gave them to an unknown man. Then she went back to Canada, but the scammers kept calling.
In July, an elderly woman told her son about the incident and realized that she had become a victim of scams. An investigation is underway into the incident.
Earlier, on April 7, it was reported that a resident of Kazakhstan tried to transfer $400 to a fraudster who posed as Canadian actor Keanu Reeves. According to her, she started communicating with the user six months ago. After a while, he turned to her with a request, because he found himself in a difficult life situation. However, the woman was told at the bank that the specified account was unclear.
