Short trips of less than 10-15 km can have a more negative impact on engine oil life than an hour-long trip along the highway. Konstantin Ozhogin, an expert at Tamashi, told about this on June 26.

The specialist explained that it is necessary to focus on the timing of engine oil replacement not by mileage, but by operating hours. If the engine runs for about five hours in the city for a 100 km run, then on the highway it takes about an hour. Thus, during city trips, the oil ages five times faster.

"Short city trips are the main enemy of engine oil: the engine stays cold for a long time, moisture and fuel get into the lubricant, and operating hours grow exponentially. The only reliable way to avoid premature wear is to shorten the replacement interval and select an oil designed specifically for frequent cold starts," Rossiyskaya Gazeta quotes Ozhogin.

The expert explained that when the engine starts up cold, the oil does not gain operating temperature and in urban conditions it often does not have time to warm up even to 70 °C. Up to 75% of wear on parts occurs in the first 30 seconds after launch, while thick, cold oil is just rising through the channels. He noted that in Russia 95% of cars are operated in "heavy mode", therefore, with a dynamic driving style or frequent traffic jams, the service interval should be reduced by about half — from 15 thousand km to 7-10 thousand km.

On June 11, auto expert Andrey Subbotin warned that in an attempt to save money on refueling air conditioners, some car owners turn not to specialized services, but to garage stations and to craftsmen "from the curb", which threatens problems with the car.

On May 27, Alexey Pavlovich, Director of production at Forsage Group, said that after the departure of leading foreign brands and the disruption of logistics chains, the Russian market was flooded with counterfeits. The proportion of fake oil, according to expert estimates, now exceeds 50%.
