Khusnullin recommended checking all driving schools in Russia.
The Government Commission on Road Safety recommended that the Prosecutor General's Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Rosobrnadzor check all Russian driving schools and develop proposals to strengthen quality control of their work. This was reported by Kommersant on June 10.
The recommendation is fixed in the minutes of the meeting of the government commission on road safety, which is headed by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin. The decision was made against the background of an increase in the number of deaths in accidents caused by novice drivers. Khusnullin recommended conducting an analysis of road accidents with deaths caused by novice motorists.
According to the newspaper, over the past ten years, accidents involving novice drivers (with up to two years of experience) have been falling, but the number of deaths in these accidents has been increasing since 2022. Thus, in the first five months of this year, the number of deaths on the roads due to traffic violations by novice drivers increased by 17%.
According to the State Traffic Inspectorate, by the end of 2024, only 14% passed the exam "in the city" on the first attempt. Its representatives, speaking at various events, regularly note that the quality of education in driving schools leaves much to be desired, the publication says. At the end of 2024, there were more than 7.5 thousand driving schools in Russia, of which 5.9 thousand units were trained for category B (passenger cars).
On February 27, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that the quality of education in Russian driving schools is planned to begin to be assessed, including by the number of accidents among their graduates. He noted that this information will be posted on a special information resource, which will be updated regularly. The relevant government bill is currently under consideration by the State Duma.
