Ryabkov pointed to the imminent end of Russia's moratorium on the INF
The existence of the Russian Federation's moratorium on the deployment of intermediate-range and shorter-range missiles (INF) is nearing its logical conclusion, Western countries have not appreciated Moscow's restraint. This was stated on June 8 by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov in an interview with TASS.
"Russia's restraint in the post-INF treaty area was not appreciated by the United States and its allies and was not reciprocated. As a result, we have openly and directly stated that our implementation of the previously imposed unilateral moratorium <...> is nearing its logical conclusion," Ryabkov said.
According to him, the administration of US President Donald Trump does not seek to reduce activities under the INF Treaty, but, on the contrary, wants to increase the pace. The diplomat stressed that Russia is forced to respond to these steps.
"Our country is forced to respond to the emergence of new and, moreover, very sensitive missile threats," Ryabkov said.
On June 7, Ryabkov said that Western countries should remember that Russia will determine targets for further testing of its latest missile systems based on threats to national security. The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that it implies, in particular, the receipt of satellite intelligence data, as well as the introduction of flight missions that can only be carried out by the Western military.
