Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko had a telephone conversation. This was announced on Monday, May 26, by the Telegram channel Pool One, which is close to Lukashenko's press service.

"Lukashenko and Putin have just had a telephone conversation," the statement said.

It is specified that during the conversation the heads of state discussed the main issues of the bilateral Russian-Belarusian agenda and the international situation.

In addition, the Russian leader thanked the President of Belarus for his help in organizing a large-scale exchange of prisoners of war according to the "1000 for 1000" formula, which Russia and Ukraine agreed on in Istanbul on May 16.

Earlier, on May 16, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, during talks with Lukashenko, said that Russia and Belarus should begin strengthening the common defense space. The Head of State, in turn, stressed that the country's leadership is working on promising types of weapons, according to a plan developed with the Russian Federation.
