Wagenknecht supported the idea of resuming the work of the Nord Streams
Sarah Wagenknecht, chairman of the German Sarah Wagenknecht Union Party, supported the idea of Michael Kretschmer, Prime Minister of Saxony, to resume the operation of Nord Streams.
On May 25, the head of the government of Saxony said that with the resumption of gas supplies via Nord Streams, it is possible to achieve possible advancement of the dialogue on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. In his opinion, the operation of gas pipelines will reduce the price of energy for both companies and German citizens.
"Michael Kretschmer is right. We have long demanded that Germany talk to Russia about reopening the Nord Streams, based on its own economic interests," Wagenknecht was quoted as saying by Spiegel magazine.
She stressed that Germany needs inexpensive energy to overcome the economic crisis and prevent the country's deindustrialization.
"Instead of buying expensive liquefied natural gas from the United States and Russia, as is happening now, it is necessary to resume the operation of gas pipelines," the politician explained.
She recommended Kretschmer to take this initiative in the Bundesrat — the Sarah Wagenknecht Union will support him.
In November 2024, Spiegel published a long article detailing the explosion on the Nord Stream gas pipeline that occurred on September 26, 2022. The publication says that a group of Ukrainians was allegedly responsible for the sabotage of the pipeline, half of whom were not military, and the cost of the operation reached $ 300 thousand.
According to some participants in the terrorist attack who spoke with Spiegel, the operation, codenamed "Diameter," was approved by Valery Zaluzhny, who held the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at that time.
Russia demands an international investigation into the terrorist attack on gas pipelines at the bottom of the Baltic Sea.
