- The United States will impose sanctions against Sudan for the alleged use of chemical weapons
Within two weeks, the United States will impose sanctions on Sudan over the alleged use of chemical weapons by the country's authorities. This was announced on May 22 in a statement by the press service of the US Department of State.
"Sudan does not comply with the CWC (Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. — Ed.), of which he is a participant. After a 15-day congressional notification period, the United States will impose sanctions against Sudan, including restrictions on U.S. exports to the country and access to U.S. government credit lines," the statement said.
According to the State Department, Sudan used chemical weapons in 2024. The sanctions will take effect after the publication of the relevant notification in the Federal Register on June 6, 2025. Washington calls on Sudan to stop any use of chemical weapons and fulfill its obligations under the CWC, the statement said.
On May 12, the State Department announced the imposition of sanctions against one legal entity and three individuals from Iran, including Fuya Pars Prospective Technologists, under the pretext of combating the development of nuclear weapons.
