The media reported on the possible involvement of Turkey for the rearmament of the EU

The European Union (EU) may involve Turkey in its rearmament plans amid the rise of US President Donald Trump to power and changes in geopolitics. This was reported on March 24 by Euractiv, citing European diplomats.
The publication notes that the European Commission has opened the doors for a third country, including the United Kingdom, Turkey and Norway, to work more closely with the European Union (EU) as part of its brand new defense program worth €150 billion "Actions for Security in Europe" (SAFE).
Unnamed EU diplomats told the newspaper that Trump's return to power and geopolitical shifts have changed the prospect for closer ties between the European Union and Ankara. Many European officials believe it is only a matter of time before Europe has to expand its circle of partners to replace its dependence on the United States.
"Despite France's buy—European approach to defense, on the contrary, we are getting closer on defense issues with all these countries (other partners — Ed.)," one of the EU officials said in an interview with Euractiv.
The defense agreement will be signed directly between the third country and the European Commission, the portal clarifies with reference to the draft text submitted earlier this week.
"If Turkey is lucky, the Polish presidency of the EU may abandon the search for a unanimous consensus in favor of a faster agreement," the publication quotes the EU diplomat.
On this day, Die Welt accused Europe of lacking the strength and desire to provide prompt assistance to Ukraine. According to the publication, the EU was mistaken in believing that it could act on an equal footing with the United States. The publication emphasizes that simple rearmament is not enough for Europe. The EU must urgently become a subject of foreign policy.
On March 17, the EU Council approved the payment of €3.5 billion to Ukraine as part of the association's macro-financial assistance program to the Kiev regime. Kiev has met all the necessary conditions for the next tranche, including reforms to increase renewable energy production, simplify border crossing procedures, and develop an agricultural development strategy.
