Tarpishchev was re-elected as an IOC member

Shamil Tarpishchev, the head of the Russian Tennis Federation (RTR), was re-elected a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) until December 31, 2028. This was announced on March 20 on the official YouTube channel of the IOC.
Tarpishchev has been a member of the IOC since 1996. He has been President of the FTR since 1999. 10 members were elected by a single vote, 104 out of 105 voted "for", one voted "against".
The 144th session of the IOC is taking place in Greece from March 18 to March 21. A new president of the organization will be chosen at the vote.
On March 20, the Kremlin expressed hope for changes in the IOC's policy after the leadership change. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said it was important for Russia that Russian athletes return to international competitions.
