In the Khabarovsk Territory, a reserve lieutenant colonel was sentenced to 13 years in a high-security penal colony for financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was announced on Thursday, March 20, by the joint press service of the courts of the region.
"The defendant pleaded guilty, explaining in court that by transferring money to the Ukrainian fund in this way, he understood that he was acting against Russia's security, and his money, along with others, would be spent on purchasing weapons, ammunition, and other things in the interests of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for use against the Russian Armed Forces," the press service said in a Telegram post —the channel.
In addition, the retired lieutenant colonel's guilt was established during the judicial investigation. In particular, thanks to the testimony of witnesses to whom the attacker himself told about his activities, documents on money transfers to Ukraine, as well as an examination of the defendant's correspondence on a mobile phone.
A resident of the Khabarovsk Territory transferred funds abroad in the summer and autumn of 2022. His close relative, who lives in Ukraine, received the money, and then transferred it to the Ukrainian foundation.
The former lieutenant colonel was found guilty under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("High treason"), and was sentenced to 13 years in prison with a fine of 300 thousand rubles. In addition, he will be stripped of his military rank on the basis of Article 48 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Deprivation of an honorary title upon conviction for committing a serious crime").
Earlier, on March 18, it was reported that a resident of the Orel region, accused of high treason, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to the FSB, the accused transferred money to support Ukrainian terrorist groups. These funds were used to purchase drones, weapons, ammunition, and tactical equipment.
